| Cut-down `The First Emperor' returns to Met Opera |

the ambitious opera was given its world premiere at the Metropolitan
Opera in December 2006, there were many interesting elements, both
musically and theatrically. But overall, it was a mixed night, done in
by tedious pacing, especially in the first act.

| Latest mash-up: COC and hip hop |
| If you had to pick a pair of musical genres furthest apart from each other, opera and hip hop would be a fairly safe bet. One thing they do share is sizable purist fan bases, which, whether they use the phrase or not, prefer practitioners to keep it real. Nonetheless, these star-crossed genres are coming together in a performance called The Hip Hopera, a new collaboration by the Canadian Opera Company and the Royal Conservatory of Music.

| Benefit set to save Fremont Symphony |
 With a plan in the works to save itself from bankruptcy, the Fremont
Symphony Orchestra is holding a fundraiser it hopes can erase at least
part of a $65,000 shortfall.
